TAKEDOWN (AUS), 2012 gelding by Stratum (AUS) out of Apamea (GB) by Zafonic (USA)

The "big fella" gave Gary his first Australian Gr.1 win in the Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot sitting up on the pace throughout then showing gritty determination to hold off all challengers. It isn't easy to get a 650 kilogram horse to travel to the other side of the continent in A1 shape, but Gary and the team did it.

Takedown is now enjoying retirement in the care of the Thompson family at historic Widden Stud.

CLASSIC UNIFORM (AUS), 2012 gelding by Al Maher (AUS) out of Pyrotechnic (AUS) by Canny Lad (AUS)

A stable stalwart, Classic Uniform was an excellent performer for three seasons for long time client Mr F L Li before he took things to another level in the Spring of 2017. He led all the way in the Gr.2 Hill Stakes at Randwick before returning to the scene of the crime two weeks later and repeating the dose in the Gr.3 Craven Plate holding off the four-time Gr.1 winner Happy Clapper. Two starts later he was third in the Gr.1 Chipping Norton Stakes, again at Randwick, but some way behind a handy mare called Winx!

Now retired, Classic Uniform has been rehomed and is being retrained as a three day event horse.

PAQUIRRI (AUS), 2015 colt by I Am Invincible (AUS) out of Miss Solis (AUS) by Oratorio (IRE).

Without doubt the unluckiest horse in training in Sydney if not Australia. He showed everyone the turn of foot he has when scooting clear in the Gr.3 Kindergarten Stakes at Randwick. Significantly, in his 13 start career to date that was the first of only two times he has had the combination of good going and a decent barrier. Gary still has high hopes for him as a four-year-old if just once the weather and barrier gods could be kind to him on the same day.

ALL TOO HUIYING (AUS), 2014 horse by All Too Hard (AUS) out of Madame Flurry (AUS) by Perugino (USA).

It was only a Listed race, but any winner at the Melbourne Cup carnival is special and it isn't often a stable are oozing confidence about a 25/1 shot. "Huey" went to the front in the Listed Connoisseur Stakes on VRC Oaks day and then every time a horse came alongside he just found another gear denying every challenge.
